Mangaluru, May 24: In a timely and courageous operation, Panambur police rescued a man who allegedly attempted to end his life by jumping into River Phalguni near Kuloor Bridge on Friday evening.
The rescued person is said to be a farmer from a village near Shravanabelagola who had reportedly been facing health-related and minor financial difficulties.
According to police sources, the man had left his house on Friday morning without informing family members. Though relatives managed to contact him over phone and repeatedly requested him to return home, he reportedly refused to disclose his whereabouts and allegedly stated that he intended to end his life.

Later, relatives received information that he was near Panambur Beach and immediately informed a retired police officer, who in turn contacted Panambur police inspector Salim Abbas around 5.30 pm and alerted him about the situation.
Acting swiftly, inspector Salim Abbas and his team launched a search operation. Police personnel first tried to counsel the man over phone and attempted to calm him down, but he reportedly remained unresponsive despite repeated assurances and emotional support.
After an extensive search operation lasting nearly one-and-a-half hours, police finally traced the man near Kuloor Bridge around 7 pm when he was allegedly preparing to jump into River Phalguni.
The police immediately intervened and safely rescued him before bringing him to Panambur police station. He was provided food and water, counselled by police personnel and later reunited with his relatives.
The rescue operation was led by inspector Salim Abbas and involved sub-inspector Jnanashekar, ASI Subrahmanya and staff members Surendra, Deepak, Imtiyaz, Rakesh, Fakkiresh, Sharan Basava, Anwar, Manjunath and others.
