Mangaluru: I PU orientation held at St Agnes PU College

Mangaluru, May 25: College life is a journey of discovery, growth, and transformation. It is a beautiful phase where young minds learn to dream bigger, face challenges with courage, build lasting friendships, and shape themselves into confident and responsible individuals ready for the future.

St Agnes PU College organised the orientation programme for I PUC students and parents on May 25, 2026, at the PU College auditorium. The programme was thoughtfully planned to familiarie students and parents with the academic environment, values, discipline, and opportunities offered by the institution. Separate sessions were conducted for students and parents to ensure meaningful interaction and guidance.

The students’ session began with a prayer song invoking god’s blessings on the new academic year. Venitia Rasquinha warmly welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest, Sr Dr Vinora AC, superior of St Agnes Convent and joint secretary of St Agnes Institutions. The programme formally commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, symbolising the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.

The college also felicitated the achievers of the I PUC annual examination for their outstanding academic performance. Dipali D Prasad and Frizel Rishall Fernandes topped the Science stream by securing 591/600, while Shrilakshmi Bhat emerged as the topper in Commerce with 596/600. In the Humanities stream, Christina Maria Tom secured the highest marks with 580/600. The achievers shared their experiences and motivated the incoming students to remain focused, disciplined, and confident in pursuing their goals.

The students were then addressed by Sr Dr Vinora AC, joint secretary of St Agnes Institutions, who congratulated the achievers on their remarkable accomplishments and warmly welcomed the newcomers to the institution.

In her inspiring message, she encouraged the students to make the best use of the opportunities provided by the college, remain focused and disciplined in their pursuits, and uphold the values and rich traditions of the institution through dedication, perseverance, and hard work.

Principal Sr Norine D’Souza addressed the students and familiarised them with the rules, regulations, discipline, and academic expectations of the institution. She encouraged the students to actively participate in academic and co-curricular activities and to make their PU years meaningful and productive.

Classroom-level orientation sessions were conducted by the respective class mentors to help students adapt comfortably to the new academic environment.

A separate orientation session was conducted for the parents. The session began with a prayer presentation. Jeevan welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest, Ashwini K A, assistant professor, Department of Clinical Psychology, St Agnes Centre for Post Graduate Studies and Research.

Through an engaging and thought-provoking session, Ashwini emphasised the vital role parents play in guiding, supporting, and understanding their children during these formative years. She highlighted the importance of effective parenting, emotional support, open communication, and creating a positive environment for the holistic growth and well-being of students.

An orientation video presentation was screened for the parents, offering a comprehensive overview of campus life, academic programmes, facilities, co-curricular activities, and the functioning of St Agnes PU College.

Vinutha D’Souza, parent of Nethan Prathik, shared her experience on how the college helped her son excel in academics and sports while also instilling values and life skills.

A special session was conducted by the faculty of Vividhya Coaching Centre for the parents of first-year Science students. The parents of the hostel students were also introduced to the hostel rules, regulations, and amenities by Sr Sannidhi, the hostel warden.

The students’ orientation programme was compered by Pramila DSouza, while Liekitha compered the parents’ orientation programme. Lavina Sequeira, joint secretary of PTA ex. committee graced the occasion.

The entire programme was coordinated by the convenors Venitia Rasquinha, Jeevan, Liekitha, and Joel, whose dedicated efforts ensured that both students and parents had an engaging and informative start to the new academic year.
