Pune, May 26: A 22-year-old youth drowned and died in a tragic incident at the Panshet dam area in Pune after slipping into a canal while visiting the scenic spot with friends on a leisure trip.
The deceased has been identified as Ankush Manoj Chaudhary.
According to preliminary information provided by police, Ankush had gone to the Panshet dam region along with his friends to enjoy the natural surroundings. While exploring the canal area, he reportedly entered the water despite warnings and slipped into a deep section of the canal.

Police said he was unaware of a deep pit in the canal and lost balance after stepping into the water, leading to him being pulled into deeper currents.
Friends who were present at the spot raised an alarm and attempted to rescue him, but their efforts failed due to the depth and strong water flow.
Upon receiving information, local authorities and disaster management teams rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. The body was later recovered from the water.
Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the family and friends of the deceased, who were left shocked by the sudden tragedy.
