Mumbai, May 28: Eid al-Adha 2026 was celebrated peacefully across Mumbai on Thursday as thousands of Muslim devotees gathered at mosques, Eidgahs and open grounds to offer special morning prayers with devotion and unity.

Large congregations were witnessed in several parts of the city from the early hours, with devotees exchanging greetings and participating in prayers in a festive atmosphere.

The area outside Bandra railway station in Bandra West witnessed huge crowds as devotees offered namaz during the Eid prayers. Thousands also gathered at the YMCA Ground in Agripada for collective prayers.

In Navi Mumbai, devotees offered Eid prayers at various Eidgahs amid peaceful celebrations. Large gatherings were also reported at Noorani Masjid in Pathanwadi and near Jama Masjid on Malvani Road in Malad, where heavy police deployment was in place.

A large number of devotees also assembled at Mahim Dargah to mark the festival.

The celebrations came days after tensions were reported at a housing society in Thane over qurbani during Eid festivities. Residents of the Poonam Estate Cluster society said the situation remained peaceful and thanked police personnel for maintaining round-the-clock security.

Residents said members of different communities have been living together harmoniously in the society and expressed hope that earlier misunderstandings would be resolved amicably.

Police personnel continued to remain deployed near sensitive areas and major prayer locations across Mumbai to maintain law and order during the celebrations.

Meanwhile, AIMIM leader Waris Pathan alleged that attempts were being made to create communal tensions during Eid celebrations and criticised those trying to spread misinformation.

Devotees also spoke about the religious significance of Eid al-Adha, stating that the festival symbolises sacrifice, faith and charity.

Mumbai Police carried out extensive security arrangements across the city, including vehicle checks and nakabandi operations at several locations such as Girgaon Chowpatty, to ensure peaceful celebrations throughout the day.
