Dewas, May 30: Two people lost their lives and another sustained serious injuries after a car collided with a motorcycle on the Shipra Bypass in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district on Saturday morning, police officials said.

The accident occurred near a railway bridge when a car travelling from Indore allegedly lost control while passing over an uneven stretch of road. According to preliminary findings, the vehicle skidded for nearly 100 feet, crossed the divider, and crashed head-on into an oncoming motorcycle.

The deceased have been identified as Haider and Ansar, while Imran suffered critical injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Indore for advanced medical treatment.

The impact of the collision was severe. Haider was reportedly thrown from the bridge and fell approximately 50 feet below, resulting in fatal injuries. Ansar also succumbed to injuries at the scene, while Imran sustained serious fractures and other injuries.

The incident sparked outrage among local residents, who gathered at the accident site and blocked the bypass road for nearly two hours. Protesters claimed that the bridge's poor condition and uneven surface had contributed to multiple accidents in the past and demanded immediate corrective measures.

Villagers further alleged delays in emergency response, stating that ambulances did not arrive on time and that the victims had to be transported to the district hospital using private vehicles and tractor-trolleys.

The road blockade led to significant traffic congestion on both sides of the bypass, disrupting movement for several hours.

Senior administrative and police officials, including Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Abhishek Sharma, reached the location and held discussions with the protesters. The demonstration was called off after authorities assured residents that concerns regarding the bridge's condition would be formally placed before the relevant authorities for review and necessary action.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
