Patna, May 30: Three people lost their lives and two others sustained serious injuries after two motorcycles collided head-on in Bihar’s Madhubani district on Saturday, police said.

The tragic accident occurred near Ganesh Chowk in Padma Panchayat under the jurisdiction of Ladaniya Police Station, sending shockwaves across the region and leaving the victims' families in mourning.

According to Ladaniya Station House Officer (SHO) Anup Kumar, both motorcycles were travelling at high speed when they reportedly lost control and crashed into each other near Ganesh Chowk. The impact of the collision was so severe that three riders died on the spot.

One of the deceased was identified as Sachin Kumar Kamat, who was travelling from Kumarkhat towards Jaynagar at the time of the accident.

The second motorcycle was carrying a couple, identified as Rajan Nadaf and his wife Rokso Khatun. The couple was reportedly on their way from Kadwahi village in Basopatti block to a relative’s residence in Ladaniya when the fatal crash occurred.

Two other individuals suffered critical injuries in the collision. They were identified as Sujit Kumar Kamat, a resident of Khutouna, and Karan Kumar, an 18-year-old resident of Ramakht.

Local residents rushed to the accident site and alerted the police. The injured were initially taken to the Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors provided emergency treatment before referring them to a hospital in Darbhanga due to the seriousness of their condition.

Police personnel from Ladaniya Police Station arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and initiated the necessary legal procedures.

In an unusual development, the families of the deceased reportedly chose not to pursue legal action. According to police, the fathers of the victims submitted written requests asking that no First Information Report (FIR) be registered and that post-mortem examinations not be conducted.

After completing mandatory legal formalities and considering the wishes expressed by the families, authorities handed over the bodies to relatives for the final rites.

The incident has renewed concerns over road safety and reckless driving on rural roads in the region. Local residents expressed grief over the loss of three lives in a single accident and called for greater awareness and adherence to traffic safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
