Mumbai, May 31: A major terror conspiracy targeting Mumbai has been uncovered following an investigation by the Delhi Police Special Cell, with investigators claiming that police personnel, security establishments and key crowded locations in the city were among the intended targets.
The development comes amid investigations into a Pakistan-linked terror module recently busted by the Delhi Police. Interrogation of the arrested suspects reportedly revealed plans to carry out attacks aimed at spreading fear in the country's financial capital.
According to investigators, the accused had allegedly conducted reconnaissance of several locations in Mumbai. During searches, police recovered photographs and videos of various sites in the city from the suspects' mobile phones and electronic devices. Officials also obtained chats and communications between the accused and their alleged foreign handlers, providing further insight into the conspiracy.

Investigators suspect the involvement of Pakistan's intelligence agency, Inter-Services Intelligence, along with underworld operatives, including fugitive gangster associate Munna Jhingada. The suspects are believed to have been acting under instructions and with logistical support from handlers operating from abroad.
Security agencies are now examining the role of these foreign-based handlers and the extent of the network behind the alleged plot.
Following the revelations, Mumbai Police and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad have been placed on high alert. Security has been tightened across the city, particularly around sensitive installations and crowded public areas.
Investigators are also probing whether the accused received assistance from local operatives or sleeper cells in Mumbai. Efforts are underway to determine if anyone provided shelter, logistical support or help in conducting surveillance of potential targets.
Officials said the swift action by the Delhi Police Special Cell helped avert a potentially serious security threat and prevented what could have been a major terror attack in Mumbai.
