Moodbidri, June 1: In a crackdown on the illegal transportation of cattle, Moodbidri police on Sunday arrested two persons and seized a pick-up tempo allegedly being used to transport animals unlawfully from Karkala towards Moodbidri.
The accused have been identified as Jacqueline and Jackson, both from Karkala, police said.
Acting on specific and credible information, police intercepted the pick-up vehicle near the Alangaru underpass and subjected it to inspection. During the check, officers found two cows and a calf being transported in the vehicle.

Police said the accused failed to produce any valid permit or authorisation for transporting the animals. Following the inspection, Moodbidri Police Inspector Rajendra took both individuals into custody and registered a case.
The cattle were rescued and the vehicle was seized as part of the operation. Further investigation is under way.
