Margao, Jun 9: A police constable attached to the Maina-Curtorim Police Station in Goa has been suspended following allegations of misconduct and improper handling of members of the public who had approached the station to settle a dispute.

According to police sources, the constable allegedly failed to follow established procedures while dealing with two groups involved in a disagreement. The incident has sparked an internal inquiry into his conduct.

Preliminary information suggests that four individuals were reportedly made to remain at the police station until late into the night, raising concerns over the manner in which the matter was handled.

Authorities are also investigating serious allegations that the constable physically assaulted the four individuals while they were at the station. The claims are currently being examined as part of an ongoing departmental probe.

A senior police official confirmed that disciplinary action had been initiated after reports emerged of the constable's alleged misbehaviour with members of the public.

“Action has been taken against the constable after information came to light regarding his conduct. A detailed investigation is underway to establish the facts of the case,” the officer said.

Police have not yet disclosed further details about the incident or the identities of those involved. The outcome of the inquiry will determine whether additional disciplinary or legal action will be pursued against the suspended officer.

The investigation is continuing.
