Woman drowns after devotee boat capsizes in Godavari River in Beed

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jun 10: A 55-year-old woman lost her life after a boat carrying devotees capsized in the Godavari river near Golegaon in Maharashtra’s Beed district on Wednesday morning.

According to police, the incident occurred around 10.30 am when the boat, carrying around 10 to 15 devotees, was preparing to depart for the Purushottampuri temple, a well-known shrine dedicated to Lord Purushottam located about 20 km from Majalgaon taluk.

Most of the passengers were reportedly from the Vidarbha region and had gathered to visit the temple, which is commonly accessed by boat across the river.

Police said the boat overturned close to the riverbank shortly after preparations for the journey began. In the mishap, a 55-year-old woman drowned.

Authorities rushed to the spot following the incident, and an investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the boat capsizing.

Officials from the Majalgaon Rural Police Station are conducting further inquiries into the incident.
