Mangaluru, Jun 15: Milagres College of Nursing marked International Yoga Day 2026 with enthusiasm at its college auditorium, underscoring the significance of yoga in promoting physical health, mental well-being, and inner balance. The event was organised under the theme, ‘Yoga for Wellness, Wisdom & World Peace'.
The programme began with a prayer seeking divine blessings for the occasion. Dignitaries were then escorted to the stage and formally welcomed. Jane Maria served as the master of ceremony, guiding the proceedings with professionalism and efficiency.















Delivering the welcome address, Diana D’Lima greeted the dignitaries, faculty members, students, and guests. She highlighted the increasing relevance of yoga in modern life and encouraged participants to adopt the practice as a pathway to holistic health and well-being.
The event was formally inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, symbolising the spread of knowledge and enlightenment.
Chief guest, Amiya Das, research scholar in the department of human consciousness and yogic sciences at Mangalore University in his keynote address, urged students, particularly future healthcare professionals, to incorporate yogic practices into their daily routines and promote healthy lifestyles within their communities. His address emphasised that yoga extends beyond physical exercise and serves as a comprehensive approach to wellness, wisdom, and peace.
Addressing the audience, Dr Diana Lobo, principal, stressed the importance of maintaining physical and mental well-being among nursing students and healthcare professionals.
The formal proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Deepika.
Following the formal programme, the chief guest conducted a yoga session for students and faculty members. Participants actively engaged in yoga postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques, gaining practical insight into the benefits of regular practice.
