Kochi, Mar 17: Police have arrested a Kasargod man on charges of allegedly murdering his live-in partner in Ernakulam on Thursday March 15 evening. He reportedly surrendered after killing his partner.

The arrested is Renish (34), a native of Kamballur, Cheruvatthur that comes under the limits of Hosdurg police station. Renish was working in a private company in Ernakulam and had a live-in relationship with beautician Sreelata (38) since 2003. The couple even have a six-year-old daughter.

The couple mutually agreed to separate about four months back due to problems in the family, but on Wednesday March 15, they again decided to live together.

In the midst of all this, it came to light that Renish wanted to marry another woman, to which Sreelata objected.  Renish had also suspected Sreelata of infedility, it is said, which eventually led him to kill her, informed police sources.

On Thursday, Renish asked Sreelata to give him a lift on her scooter till Kaloor. When she was riding, he allegedly pulled her and stabbed her with a sharp knife, before escaping on her scooter. The locals tried to chase him, but in vain. They also rushed Sreelata to hospital, but she could not be saved.

About one-and-a-half hours later, Renish surrendered before the Ernakulam north police. The helmet and gold chain worn by Sreelata were found at the crime spot.
