Kaup: Woman killed after being hit by bus while crossing road

Kaup, Jun 20: A 73-year-old woman was killed after being hit by an express bus while crossing National Highway 66 at Pangala on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Srimathi Bhat, a retired employee of Syndicate Bank.

Srimathi, who had houses in both Pangala and Kapu, had come to Pangala from Kapu to purchase milk. While she was crossing the highway to return home, she was hit by a Bharathi Express bus travelling from Udupi towards Mangaluru.

Due to the impact of the collision, she was thrown onto the road and suffered severe head injuries. She died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.

Her body was later shifted to the mortuary through an ambulance from Kaup Primary Health Centre.

Kapu police visited the spot, conducted an inspection and registered a case. Further investigation is underway.

The deceased had lost her husband in an accident near Udyavar bridge a few years ago and is survived by her daughter.
