Mumbai, Jun 21: Demonstrating its commitment to educational support and community welfare, the WE Club of Vasant Vihar Charitable Trust has donated a computer, printer and a bundle of A4-size paper to the BMC School in Tilak Nagar, Chembur, within days of receiving a request from the school authorities.

Members of the club were invited to attend the reopening of the school for the academic year 2026-27 and the Shala Praveshotsav held on June 15. During the programme, school staff and teachers appealed to the club for assistance, explaining that the school did not have a computer or printer and that staff and students had to travel nearly ten minutes to print letters and other documents.

Responding swiftly to the request, the WE Club arranged for the donation within four to five days. The computer and printer were inaugurated by WE Varsha Vora, district president 2025-26 and a member of the WE Club of Vasant Vihar.

Expressing pride in the initiative, Club president WE Hiral Sanghvi said the project reflected the club’s dedication to supporting educational institutions and providing students with better facilities. Club members WE Pallavi Chandna, WE Leeladevi and WE Mala Shetty (PDP) also played key roles in the project.

The donation, valued at Rs 21,780, was made possible through sponsorship from Vishnu Velkuru, USA, a colleague of Mala Shetty’s son Sarosh Shetty, and Radhika Narayan, USA, a friend of Mala Shetty. The project was coordinated by Mala Shetty. School staff members also participated in the inauguration ceremony.

For Mala Shetty, the project held special personal significance. She said she felt “happy, proud and privileged” to be associated with the donation, noting that the Kannada-medium section of the school was established by her late father, K M Alva, after the BMC school building was constructed in 1956.

She recalled that her father had contributed significantly to the development of the institution and had also initiated Sunday Hindi classes for students, with Kotian serving as the teacher.

“This donation of a computer and printer has been made in his memory. It is especially meaningful because my father dedicated considerable effort towards the growth and improvement of this school and the welfare of its students,” she said.

The gesture was warmly appreciated by the school community and is expected to enhance administrative efficiency and educational support for both staff and students.
