Pernem, Jun 25: A group of minor students and their driver had a narrow escape after a jeep overturned on National Highway-66 at Ugave in Pernem taluk on Wednesday afternoon amid heavy rain.
According to police, the vehicle was carrying students from Mapusa to Banda for an outing as part of the São João celebrations when the accident occurred.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver lost control of the jeep due to slippery road conditions caused by heavy rainfall. The vehicle reportedly skidded off the highway and overturned by the roadside.
The impact caused extensive damage to the front portion of the jeep. However, all the occupants escaped without sustaining any serious injuries.
Police said the passengers managed to exit the overturned vehicle by breaking open the sunroof and climbing out safely.
A team from the Pernem police station rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident. The officers conducted a spot inspection and completed the panchanama proceedings.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is in progress under the supervision of Police Inspector Nitin Halarnkar, police sources said.
