Yenepoya Nursing College marks World Environment Day with awareness programmes and competitions

Mangaluru, Jun 26: Institutional Innovation Committee (IIC) AYUSH Cluster, The Youth Red Cross (YRC), Centre for Environmental studies and Eco Club of Yenepoya Nursing College organized a series of activities in connection with World Environment Day 2026 to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices among teachers, students, and the community.

As part of the celebrations, a Concept Map Competition for teachers was conducted on the theme ‘The role of schools and teachers in preserving the environment through students.’ A drawing competition for students was also organized on the themes ‘Clean Village’ and ‘Sustainable Environment.’ These competitions encouraged participants to creatively express their ideas on environmental conservation and sustainability.

An awareness programme was conducted focusing on the prevention and control of mosquito-borne diseases, waste management, and vermicomposting. The sessions highlighted practical measures for maintaining environmental hygiene and promoting sustainable waste disposal practices.

A formal valedictory programme was held to recognize and appreciate the efforts of the participants. Dr Rekha P D, director of research and development, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), graced the occasion as the chief guest. Dr Manjula Shetty, vice principal of the school, presided over the programme. The winners of the various competitions were felicitated, and prizes were distributed during the event.

The programme was successful in creating awareness about environmental protection and fostering a sense of responsibility among teachers, students, and the community toward building a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
