Mangaluru, Jun 26: An informative programme on the theme “Awareness Today, Healthy Lives Tomorrow” was organized for the students of Classes VII and VIII at Carmel School to educate them on the importance of leading a healthy and drug-free life.
The programme commenced with a prayer song by the students, invoking God's blessings for the success of the session. The resource person, Dr Kusum Thantry Dsa, a certified de-addiction counsellor, education leader, and translator, was warmly welcomed and introduced by teacher Renita.

Addressing the students, Dr Kusum Thantry D'Sa explained the meaning of drugs and highlighted the dangers of substance abuse. She spoke about socially acceptable drugs that often cause serious problems in society and explained how addiction begins and gradually continues to affect an individual. She emphasized that repeated use of addictive substances can make the brain dependent on them, thereby affecting both the brain and the body.
The resource person also elaborated on the harmful effects of tobacco and other addictive substances, creating awareness among students about the long-term consequences of addiction. She encouraged students to adopt healthy ways of handling stress, such as engaging in regular exercise, pursuing hobbies, and maintaining open communication with family members and friends. She also urged them to become positive influences among their peers and contribute to creating a healthy and supportive environment.
The students enthusiastically participated in the interactive session and actively clarified their doubts, making the programme highly engaging and informative.
Rachith of grade VIII shared his reflections on the session and proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the resource person for her valuable guidance and to everyone who contributed to the success of the programme. The programme was compered by teacher Mrs. Lovelita.
The awareness session proved to be both enlightening and inspiring, reinforcing the message that informed choices and healthy habits today can lead to healthier and brighter lives tomorrow.
