Goa to launch statewide drive against illegal borewells from August

Daijiworld Media Network – Panaji

Panaji, Jul 2: The Goa government will launch a statewide drive from August to identify and seal illegal borewells as part of its efforts to strengthen water resource management, Water Resources Department (WRD) Minister Subhash Shirodkar said.

The minister said the initiative aims to curb the unauthorised extraction of groundwater, ensure sustainable use of water resources and improve overall water management across the state.

The crackdown will be carried out across Goa, with officials identifying and sealing borewells operating without the required permissions. The government has urged people to comply with the regulations and obtain necessary approvals for groundwater extraction.

The move is part of the state's broader strategy to conserve groundwater resources and address growing concerns over water availability.
