Patna, Jul 4: A 37-year-old healthcare worker was allegedly stabbed to death after being lured out of his home in Bihar's Nalanda district, prompting angry protests by his family and local residents, who blocked a national highway demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.

The victim, identified as Sonu Kumar, was a resident of Cheran village and worked as a pathology staff member. The incident took place in Mudhari village under the jurisdiction of the Harnaut police station.

According to family members, Sonu received a phone call at around 10:15 p.m. on Friday, asking him to come to the Shivaji Mohalla area. A short time later, one of his relatives received another call claiming that Sonu had been injured in a road accident and was lying by the roadside.

The family was subsequently contacted by the police, following which they rushed to the spot. On arrival, they found Sonu lying in a pool of blood with multiple injuries. His relatives alleged that the wounds appeared to have been inflicted with a sharp-edged weapon rather than resulting from a traffic accident.

He was initially taken to Kalyan Bigha Referral Hospital for first aid before being referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

Sonu later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at PMCH on Saturday. According to his family, he was the youngest among four siblings.

Following his death, relatives and villagers staged a protest by blocking the Rajouli–Bakhtiyarpur National Highway-20 (NH-20) for nearly two hours, demanding swift action against those responsible for the killing.

The agitation ended after police officials assured the protesters that a thorough investigation would be carried out and the culprits would be arrested.

Confirming the investigation, Tarkeshwar Prasad Singh said a case had been registered based on the complaint filed by the victim's family.

He said investigators are examining Sonu Kumar's mobile phone call records and reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the attackers and reconstruct the sequence of events.

Police said further legal action will be taken as the investigation progresses and additional evidence is collected.
