Kundapur, Jul 9: Eight electricity poles were damaged after large branches of a peepal tree snapped and fell onto the road near the fish market in Kundapur municipal limits amid strong winds and heavy rain on Tuesday night.
The fallen branches damaged eight 11 kV power poles supplying electricity to areas around the Fish Market, Rama Mandir, the New Bus Stand and Kharvikeri. In several places, the poles were uprooted from their base due to the impact.

Mescom personnel carried out restoration work throughout Wednesday to replace the damaged poles and restore power supply. The incident caused disruptions in electricity supply across parts of Kundapur town.
The road connecting the national highway to the municipal area's main road via the fish market remained closed from Tuesday night through Wednesday after the tree blocked the route, affecting vehicular movement.
Kundapur and Byndoor taluks have been receiving widespread rainfall over the past few days. However, rainfall eased on Wednesday, with wind intensity also showing signs of weakening.
