Mumbai, Jul 9: Police have registered a case after a viral video purportedly showed the driver of a Haryana-registered Mahindra Thar knocking down two motorcyclists in separate incidents before fleeing the scene without stopping.
The video, widely circulated on social media, appears to show the SUV, bearing registration number HR 98 X 5101, being driven recklessly on a busy road in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
In the footage, the vehicle is seen colliding with a motorcycle carrying two persons, throwing both riders onto the road. Instead of stopping to assist them, the driver allegedly sped away.

Moments later, the SUV is seen striking another two-wheeler before again driving off without halting, triggering widespread outrage on social media.
Responding to the viral video, the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar Police said an FIR has been registered at Kashigaon Police Station against the unidentified driver.
According to police, the case has been registered under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Sections 184 and 187 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
The identity of the driver has not yet been disclosed, and an investigation is underway.
The incident has drawn sharp criticism online, with many users demanding strict action against the driver and calling for tougher enforcement against reckless and hit-and-run driving offences.
