Youth crushed to death by APSRTC bus while crossing road in Vijayawada

Vijayawada, Jul 9: A young man was killed after being run over by an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus while crossing a road at a traffic junction in Vijayawada. The incident, captured on a CCTV camera, is under police investigation.

According to reports, the victim was allegedly looking at his mobile phone while crossing the road when the bus struck him. He fell beneath the vehicle and was crushed to death on the spot.

The 46-second CCTV footage reportedly shows eight to ten pedestrians crossing the road together. The victim, dressed in a green T-shirt, black shorts and slippers and carrying a handbag, is seen walking with the group before allegedly taking out his mobile phone while crossing.

Within seconds, a green-and-white APSRTC bus hit him. Although the bus did not appear to be travelling at high speed, it failed to stop after the impact and ran over the victim, killing him instantly.

The incident initially left bystanders shocked, with many unable to understand how the accident had occurred. Police later examined CCTV footage from the area, which helped reconstruct the sequence of events.

Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
