Seoni (Madhya Pradesh), Jul 11: Police have launched an intensive investigation after two severely charred bodies, believed to be those of a government schoolteacher couple, were discovered inside their locked residence in Madhya Pradesh's Seoni district.
The deceased are suspected to be Malti Dhurve, a teacher posted at a government school in Kumhada village under Keolari block, and her husband Saman Singh Dhurve, who was serving at a government school in Damijhola, Mohbarra. However, officials said their identities cannot be confirmed visually as the bodies were burnt beyond recognition.
Police said DNA testing will be conducted to establish their identities by matching samples with those of the couple's children.
"The bodies were completely charred, making identification impossible. A forensic team has collected evidence from the scene, and DNA analysis will be carried out before the identities are officially confirmed," an official said.
According to investigators, relatives became concerned after they were unable to contact the couple for nearly two days. When repeated phone calls went unanswered, family members visited the house on Friday evening. Finding the residence locked, they entered the premises and found the two bodies inside a room.
Police said the bodies were lying on a bed, while the bed, a cooler and several household items had been destroyed in the fire.
Investigators believe the incident may have taken place around two days before the bodies were discovered. The circumstances surrounding the case have raised suspicion, as the house remained locked and no nearby residents reported noticing a fire or smoke.
The couple's children, who study outside the town, were away from home when the incident occurred.
Police said all possible angles are being examined, including accidental fire, suicide and homicide.
"We are investigating every aspect of the case. The exact cause of death and the sequence of events will become clear only after the post-mortem and forensic examination reports are received," a senior police officer said.
Teams from the police, Fingerprint Bureau and Forensic Science Laboratory have inspected the scene and collected evidence. The investigation is being led by the Ugli Police Station, with authorities awaiting forensic and DNA reports before reaching any conclusions about the mysterious deaths.
