Media Release

Ontario, Jul 14: The Konkan Organization of Toronto (KOT) organized its annual pilgrimage to the Martyrs' Shrine in Midland, Ontario on July 4. Falling just after Canada Day, this year's visit was a wonderful opportunity to gather as a community to celebrate faith, heritage, fellowship and the anniversary of Canada’s Confederation, marked on July 1.

A bus was organized for members to join in fellowship and games during the 2-hour journey from Toronto.

On reaching, the day began with a beautiful Holy Mass celebrated at 11 am in Konkani by Fr Roshan D’Souza. In his inspiring homily, Fr Roshan focused on the devotion of the Canadian Martyrs, particularly taking the example of the patron St Jean de Brébeuf. He reflected on how Saint Jean lived the values of Christ and shared how we, as a community, can learn to embrace those spiritual gifts in our daily lives.

After Mass, members shared an incredible potluck of traditional, homemade dishes, followed by fun community games and entertainment.

The community’s devotion continued with a procession and the recitation of the Rosary to Mother Mary. Together as members interceded for the health, goodwill, and ongoing protection of all community members and their families.

The journey back to Toronto set a lively atmosphere, with members singing along and playing games the entire way.

Members returned home feeling a sense of joy and excitement having reconnected with friends, and celebrating a fruitful day of togetherness.
