Vasco, Jul 14: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will lay the foundation stone for a 20-bed hospital in Mormugao on July 26, marking the beginning of a long-awaited healthcare project aimed at improving medical services in the constituency.

Ahead of the ceremony, Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar, accompanied by officials of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), inspected the proposed 4,000-square-metre project site on Monday.

The hospital will be equipped with modern healthcare facilities and is expected to serve residents of Mormugao and neighbouring areas by providing better access to medical treatment closer to home.

Describing the project as a long-cherished goal, Amonkar said establishing a hospital in the constituency had been his dream and expressed satisfaction that it was finally becoming a reality. He added that Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, GSIDC Chairman Michael Lobo and other senior government officials are expected to attend the foundation stone-laying ceremony.

Besides improving healthcare services, the project is also expected to generate employment opportunities for local residents during its construction and operation.

Amonkar further revealed that the government is considering a proposal to establish a petrol pump near the Sada Sub Jail premises, which became vacant after inmates were shifted to Colvale Jail.

He said the proposed fuel station would provide greater convenience to local residents by reducing the need to travel to Vasco for fuel and would also benefit heavy vehicles transporting cargo to and from the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA).
