Islamabad, Mar 21 (IANS): The driver of a newspaper truck was abducted and thousands of newspapers were set ablaze Wednesday morning in Karachi, a media report said.
Jang Press driver was kidnapped along with his circulation truck carrying thousands of newspapers for distribution Wednesday morning, Geo News reported.
Truck driver Sardar said that motorcyclists stopped the Jang truck and took him to Hijrat Colony.
The abductors then took 'Jang' and 'The News' newspapers and burnt it. Sardar said that perpetrators cited a rift with the Jang Group as a cause for the act.
The incident took place just a day after armed motorcyclists smashed windows of 'Geo News' satellite van and opened fire outside the office.
It was condemned by various journalists' organizations.
Geo News reported that a political party complained of inadequate coverage and forced shutting down of channels.
When cable operators refused, the network was severed affecting 70 percent of the coverage in the city.
