Noida, Jul 15: More than 100 residents were safely evacuated after a major fire broke out in a five-storey residential building in Mamura village under the Phase 3 police station limits in Noida on Tuesday. Two people were injured in the incident and are receiving treatment, while the building operator has been taken into police custody.

According to officials, the blaze started in the building's parking area, prompting an immediate response from police and the fire department. Firefighters managed to control the flames after carrying out an extensive rescue operation in the smoke-filled building.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shailendra Kumar Singh said the fire was triggered when an electric scooter that had been plugged in for charging caught fire in the parking area.

"The flames quickly spread to nearby objects, generating thick smoke that travelled through the building and reached the upper floors, making evacuation difficult," he said.

Police and multiple fire tenders rushed to the scene soon after receiving information about the incident. Rescue teams successfully evacuated more than 100 occupants trapped inside the building despite the dense smoke.

During the operation, two people became critically ill after being affected by the incident and were shifted to a nearby hospital by ambulance. Officials said their medical condition is being monitored.

Police have registered a case against the building's leaseholder and operator under relevant legal provisions, alleging negligence. Both have been taken into custody as the investigation into the cause of the fire continues.

Authorities said further details will be released as the probe progresses.
