Kolkata, Jul 17: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will begin a three-day visit to West Bengal from Thursday, during which he is scheduled to review border security, law and order, governance and key development initiatives across the state.

According to official sources, Shah will visit the Jumagach Border Outpost near Siliguri on July 18, where he will interact with Border Security Force (BSF) personnel. He is also expected to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several BSF development projects.

The Home Minister will chair a meeting on border-related issues in West Bengal and review the implementation of the three new criminal laws in the state. He is also scheduled to preside over a meeting on birth and death registration later on Saturday.

During his visit to Kolkata, Shah will hold a high-level review meeting on the state's law and order situation. He will also inaugurate the first phase of the 'Museum of Words' at the National Library in Alipore and lay the foundation stone for an Amul Dairy curd processing plant at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal government has introduced a uniform transfer policy for field-level officers across departments to improve administrative efficiency, transparency and accountability.

Under the new policy, officers will ordinarily be transferred after completing three years in a post and should not remain in the same position for more than four years. Officials handling sensitive assignments such as revenue and tax collection will generally be transferred after two years and will not continue in the same post beyond three years.

The policy also states that officers will ordinarily not be posted in their home districts, except during the final two years before retirement and subject to administrative requirements.

According to the state government, the new transfer guidelines are aimed at strengthening public service delivery while ensuring greater transparency and efficiency in administration.
