Hapur, Jul 18: Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested a truck driver accused of causing a road accident that killed a man and his three children in Hapur district before fleeing the scene. The arrest was made after investigators traced the accused using CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts and technical evidence.
The accident occurred on July 13 near the Bachhlauta flyover on the Delhi-Lucknow National Highway (NH-9), when a truck covered with a green tarpaulin allegedly rammed into a motorcycle carrying a family of five.
The impact threw all the occupants onto the road. Police said the truck driver allegedly ran over two of the children after the collision while attempting to flee.

The victims were identified as Ashok, a resident of Hasanpur village in Shahjahanpur district, and his three children, Anuj, Meenakshi and Radhika. Ashok's wife, Rinky, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a medical college in Meerut.
Hapur City Circle Officer Anita Chauhan said the family was travelling to Noida when the accident took place at around 3.30 pm as they reached the Bachhlauta flyover.
According to the preliminary investigation, a speeding truck approaching from behind hit the motorcycle, causing all five family members to fall onto the road.
Police said Ashok and the three children died at the scene, while Rinky survived with serious injuries.
Investigators believe that two of the children might have survived had the truck driver stopped after the initial collision instead of fleeing. Instead, he allegedly drove over them before escaping.
A police team launched a search across multiple districts and eventually traced the accused through CCTV footage and by tracking the truck's route.
The accused has been arrested, the truck has been seized and further legal proceedings are underway, police said.
