Russian drone attack toll rises in Moscow region as airstrikes intensify

Moscow, Jul 19: A Ukrainian drone strike on Russia's Moscow region has left one person dead and 61 others injured, according to regional Governor Andrei Vorobyov, who shared the updated casualty figures on social media on Saturday.

Vorobyov said 20 of the injured were treated on an outpatient basis and did not require hospital admission. Of those hospitalised, nine remain in critical condition, while 31 are reported to be in stable but moderate condition. Medical teams continue to monitor all the victims and provide treatment for injuries including shrapnel wounds, blast trauma, fractures, burns, traumatic brain injuries and smoke inhalation.

The city of Elektrostal, located around 60 kilometres east of Moscow, bore the brunt of the attack, with 57 people injured. Another four people were hurt in Noginsk, the governor said.

Earlier in the day, officials had reported 24 injuries after a drone crashed into the premises of a warehouse in Elektrostal. The updated figures indicate a significant rise in the number of casualties.

Separately, Russia's Defence Ministry claimed its air defence systems intercepted 774 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones and 13 guided aerial bombs over the past 24 hours.

The ministry also said Russian forces launched a fresh wave of overnight strikes using precision-guided air-launched weapons and attack drones against what it described as Ukrainian military infrastructure.

According to the ministry, the strikes targeted fuel unloading facilities and storage sites at the Port of Odesa, which Russia alleged were supporting Ukrainian military operations.

Russian authorities further claimed that a container ship unloading ammunition at the Port of Chornomorsk in Ukraine's Odesa region was hit during the operation. They also said a dry cargo vessel near Snake Island in the Black Sea, reportedly transporting military supplies for Ukraine, was struck.

The claims made by the Russian Defence Ministry regarding the military targets have not been independently verified.
