Guna (Madhya Pradesh), Jul 19: A devastating road accident claimed the lives of an entire family after a speeding car collided head-on with their motorcycle on the Guna-Gwalior Highway (NH-46) in Madhya Pradesh's Guna district on Sunday evening.

The fatal accident occurred around 6 p.m. near Bhadaura village under the Myana police station limits.

According to police, a white Maruti Ertiga travelling from Gwalior crashed into a motorcycle carrying a man, his wife and their seven-year-old son. The impact was so severe that the motorcycle was completely wrecked, throwing all three occupants onto the road. They died at the scene.

The deceased were identified as Manoj Kushwaha (34), his wife Malti Kushwaha (30), and their son Kartik (7), residents of Piprauda village.

Investigating officer Brijmohan Bhadauria said the family was returning home from their relatives' house when the accident took place near a small bridge on the highway.

Police personnel reached the spot soon after receiving information and shifted the bodies to Guna District Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

The driver of the car has been taken into custody. During preliminary questioning, he claimed that the motorcycle suddenly appeared in front of his vehicle and that he could not stop in time because of the speed at which he was travelling.

Police have seized the vehicle, collected evidence from the accident site and registered a case. Further legal action will be taken after the victims' family members complete the necessary formalities.

Officials said the investigation is continuing to determine the exact circumstances that led to the crash.

The incident has sparked anger among local residents, who alleged that overspeeding and dangerous overtaking are frequent on the four-lane Guna-Gwalior highway and have repeatedly led to serious accidents.
