Newlywed couple found hanging in separate rooms in Bihar, police probe mysterious deaths

Patna, Jul 20: A newly married couple was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district on Monday, with their bodies discovered hanging in separate rooms of a house. Police have launched an investigation and are examining all possible angles, including suicide and homicide.

The incident occurred in Nariyar Nawada village under the Motipur police station limits, leaving the local community in shock.

The deceased were identified as Vijay Sahani and his wife, Anjali Sahani, who had tied the knot just four months ago in March.

According to family members, Anjali had been unwell for the past few days and was staying at her parents' home. Vijay had been visiting her regularly and had reached the house on Sunday.

Police said that, according to the initial account, Anjali's mother, Sheila Devi, was the only other person present at the house on Sunday evening. After serving dinner to the couple, she reportedly stepped out for a short while. On returning, she allegedly found Vijay and Anjali hanging from scarf nooses in two separate rooms.

The discovery triggered panic in the village, following which police were alerted. Officers reached the scene, carried out a preliminary investigation and sent both bodies to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) for post-mortem examination.

Vijay's family has alleged foul play and demanded a thorough and impartial investigation. They claimed that even if Anjali had taken her own life, Vijay was allegedly murdered afterwards, urging police to examine the sequence of events carefully.

Dismissing the allegations, Anjali's mother maintained that everything had appeared normal before the incident. She said her daughter had been staying with her parents due to illness and that Vijay frequently visited the house.

She also stated that the family had sold land to arrange Anjali's marriage and questioned why they would harm either their daughter or son-in-law.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (West-1) Suchitra Kumari said investigators are probing the case from every possible angle. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has inspected the scene and collected scientific evidence to aid the investigation.

Police said the exact cause and manner of the deaths will be established only after the post-mortem reports, forensic findings and completion of the investigation. Officials added that no possibility has been ruled out and further action will be taken based on the evidence that emerges.
