Bengaluru, Jul 21: Alliance University, Bengaluru, through its Centre of Excellence in Indian Knowledge Systems (CoE–IKS) and the Alliance School of performing, visual, and creative arts, in association with the Folkland International Centre for Folklore and Culture, will host the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Indian Folklore Congress from July 22–24 at its Bengaluru campus.
The landmark three-day National Seminar on 'Folklore and Indian Knowledge Systems' will bring together eminent scholars, academicians, researchers, artists, cultural practitioners, and students from across the country to explore the enduring relevance of India's diverse folklore traditions, Indigenous Knowledge Systems, and Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The seminar aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on the preservation, documentation, and contemporary relevance of India's rich cultural traditions while highlighting the significant role of folklore in shaping knowledge systems, identity, and sustainable community practices. The event will feature keynote addresses, technical sessions, panel discussions, research paper presentations, interactive deliberations, and vibrant cultural performances showcasing India's living folk traditions.
The conference is being led by Dr A M Sreedharan, director, Centre of Excellence in Indian Knowledge Systems (CoE–IKS), Dr Sruthy Chandrasekhar, head, Alliance School of Performing, Visual, and Creative Arts, and Dr V Jayarajan, director, Folkland International Centre for Folklore and Culture and chairman, ICCN.
The inaugural ceremony will be graced by distinguished dignitaries including Prof Madhukarbhai S Padvi, chairman, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Prof M. R Gangadhar, vice-chancellor, Chamarajanagar University, Mysuru, and Prof K Chinnappa Gowda, former vice-chancellor, Karnataka Janapada (Folklore) University, along with several renowned folklorists, academicians, researchers, and cultural practitioners from leading universities and institutions across India.
The Golden Jubilee Celebration marks fifty years of the Indian Folklore Congress and is expected to be one of the largest national academic gatherings dedicated to folklore studies and Indian Knowledge Systems. The event will provide an important platform for knowledge exchange, collaborative research, and meaningful discussions on safeguarding India's intangible cultural heritage for future generations.
The National Seminar is coordinated by Pasumarthi Kumara Datta, assistant professor, Alliance School of Performing, Visual, and Creative Arts, Alliance University, who serves as the Coordinator of the National Seminar on Folklore and Indian Knowledge Systems.
Through this initiative, Alliance University reaffirms its commitment to promoting Indian Knowledge Systems, preserving the nation's rich cultural heritage, and creating academic platforms that encourage research, innovation, and interdisciplinary engagement in the humanities and performing arts.
