Mangaluru, Jul 23: Srinivas College of Pharmacy, Mangalore organized a drug addiction awareness programme on July 23 with the objective of educating students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of leading a healthy, drug-free life.

The programme featured Gururaj, police inspector, Kankanady police station, as the resource person. Gururaj delivered an informative and impactful session highlighting the growing menace of drug addiction, illicit drug trafficking, legal consequences of drug-related offences, and the physical, psychological, social, and economic impact of substance abuse. He also emphasized the vital role of students in resisting peer pressure, making responsible choices, and contributing to a drug-free society.

The session included practical examples, real-life case studies, and interactive discussions, which helped students understand the seriousness of substance abuse and encouraged them to seek help whenever necessary. The police officials also explained the initiatives undertaken by the Karnataka Police to prevent drug abuse among youth and encouraged students to actively support anti-drug campaigns.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr A R Shabaraya, principal and director, who appreciated the efforts of the Kankanady Police Station in creating awareness among students. Heads of departments, teaching and non-teaching staff members, and students of BPharm, PharmD, DPharm, and MPharm actively participated in the programme.

The awareness programme concluded successfully with an enthusiastic response from the participants. The session reinforced the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle and inspired students to become ambassadors for a drug-free campus and society.
