New Delhi, Jul 26: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has launched a large-scale sanitation drive to restore the Jantar Mantar protest site after the week-long agitation concluded on Saturday evening.

More than 500 sanitation workers have been deployed in multiple shifts to remove garbage, construction debris, temporary structures, banners, tents and other materials left behind during the protest. The clean-up operation began soon after protesters vacated the site following the withdrawal of the agitation.

According to NDMC officials, the exercise aims to restore Jantar Mantar and its surrounding areas to their original condition at the earliest.

To expedite the operation, the civic body has pressed trucks, auto-tippers and mechanised cleaning equipment, including gobbler machines, into service. Additional personnel from the Civil Engineering Department have also been deployed to clear construction waste, stones and other debris.

The sanitation drive covers Jantar Mantar Road, Tolstoy Marg, Jai Singh Road, Sansad Marg and parts of Connaught Place, which witnessed heavy footfall during the protest.

NDMC said it has already removed several tonnes of mixed waste from the protest site and adjoining areas over the past two days. Officials noted that the volume of waste increased significantly as the agitation progressed, necessitating round-the-clock deployment of workers and machinery.

According to the reports, the protest ended after the Centre accepted the demonstrators' key demands, including the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The agitation, led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), was launched over alleged examination paper leaks and demands for greater accountability in the education system.

Officials said the clean-up operation will continue until the entire area has been fully restored.
