Puttur, Jul 27: In connection with the counterfeit currency printing racket unearthed at Adenj in Kaniyoor village, police conducted a search at the rented house in Pilichandikallu where absconding accused Abdul Shakeel and arrested accused Sandeep Pundalik Sholambi of Haliyal taluk in Uttara Kannada district had been staying. During the search, police seized a printer, bottles containing chemical solution, and several other materials.
Police had busted the counterfeit currency racket on July 16 at a house owned by Idrees in Adenj, where fake currency notes were allegedly being printed. Counterfeit notes, along with machinery and equipment used for printing the fake currency, were seized, and further investigation has since revealed additional details in the case.
Police had arrested seven accused in connection with the racket. They are Ibrahim (60) of Puttur Kasba village, Shareef (51) of Changula village in Kasargod district, Sandeep Pundalik Sholambi (30) of Haliyal taluk in Uttara Kannada district, Nabas (37) of Amoor village in Kasargod district, Salman Faris (25) of Olamogru village, Sirajuddin (34) of Uruvalu village, and Irshad (31) of Puthila village.
The accused were produced before the Beltangady court. Ibrahim of Bappalige, Sandeep Pundalik Sholambi, Sirajuddin of Uruvalu, and Irshad of Puthila were initially remanded to police custody until July 26. The remaining accused—Nabas of Amoor village, Salman Faris of Olamogru, and Shareef of Changula village—were remanded to judicial custody until August 1. On July 26, the court also remanded the four accused who had been in police custody to judicial custody.
Meanwhile, after obtaining permission from the court, a police team led by the Beltangady deputy superintendent of police conducted a search at the rented accommodation in Kuvettu village where absconding accused Abdul Shakeel and Sandeep Pundalik had been residing. According to police sources, a printer, bottles containing chemical solution, and other materials were recovered from the room occupied by Sandeep Pundalik during the search.
