Tehran, Jul 28: Iran has executed two men convicted on charges linked to the nationwide anti-government protests held in January, according to the country's judiciary.

The Iranian Judiciary's Mizan News Agency reported on Tuesday that the two men, identified as Abolfazl Sepahi Badjani and Amirhossein Safari Hosseinabadi, were executed after being found guilty of participating in the killing of members of the security forces during the unrest.

According to the report, the men had been convicted on charges related to their alleged involvement in violent incidents during the nationwide protests.

Iranian authorities have carried out a series of arrests, prosecutions and executions in connection with the anti-government demonstrations, maintaining that those convicted were involved in attacks on security personnel and other violent acts.

Human rights organisations have repeatedly criticised Iran's use of the death penalty in protest-related cases, raising concerns over due process and fair trial standards. Iranian authorities, however, have defended the judicial proceedings, stating that those convicted were tried in accordance with the country's laws.
