New Delhi, Jul 30: The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday held a high-level meeting to review the evolving situation in West Asia and assess its potential impact on India's energy security and fuel supplies.
The meeting, held in Parliament, was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Kiren Rijiju and JP Nadda.
Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and other senior government and security officials also participated in the discussions.
According to sources, the CCS reviewed the rapidly changing situation in West Asia and its possible implications for India's imports of crude oil, petroleum products, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and other critical energy supplies.
The committee also assessed the country's energy preparedness and contingency plans to ensure uninterrupted fuel supplies in the event of further escalation in the region.
The participation of senior ministers responsible for defence, external affairs, finance and energy reflected the government's focus on safeguarding India's strategic and economic interests amid rising tensions in West Asia.
An official statement on the outcome of the meeting was awaited at the time of filing the report.
