New Delhi, Jul 30: A Zero FIR has been registered against a woman for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a protest over the alleged NEET paper leak at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on July 23.

The accused, identified as Ruchika Singh, was booked after a video purportedly showing her making derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister went viral on social media. The video also reportedly referred to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and was widely circulated online.

The FIR was registered on July 29 at the Expressway Police Station in Gautam Buddh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, based on a complaint filed by Supreme Court advocate Smriti Singh Chandel.

According to the complaint, the remarks allegedly hurt the dignity of the constitutional office of the Prime Minister and were intended to spread hatred and disturb public peace.

The FIR has been registered under Sections 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 353(1) and 356(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

In the complaint, the advocate alleged that Ruchika Singh had publicly used abusive and objectionable language against the Prime Minister during the protest at Jantar Mantar on July 23, adding that the act was aimed at disturbing public peace and insulting a constitutional office.

The case comes days after Delhi Police issued notices to several social media accounts over the circulation of the video, directing them to remove content alleged to be derogatory, malicious and defamatory towards constitutional authorities as part of an ongoing investigation.

Police said the case was initially registered as a Zero FIR by the Noida Police and has since been transferred to the Delhi Police, as the alleged incident took place within the jurisdiction of Jantar Mantar in the national capital.
