Cairo, Jul 31: The Indian men's team secured a second consecutive bronze medal at the World Squash Junior Team Championships after losing 0-2 to the United States in the semifinals.

The achievement marks the first time an Indian team has won back-to-back medals in the prestigious world junior team competition.

In the semifinal clash, Gurveer Singh gave a strong fight against USA player Brendan Tagliarini but eventually went down 7-11, 12-10, 9-11, 7-11 in a closely contested opening match. India's top-ranked player Aryaveer Dewan then faced Yaseen Shalaby in the second tie and suffered a 5-11, 7-11, 5-11 defeat, handing the USA a place in the final.

Tagliarini, who was celebrating his 17th birthday, played a crucial role for the American side, recovering from an early setback to defeat Gurveer after a hard-fought contest. His victory gave the USA an early advantage before Shalaby sealed the tie with a straight-game win over Aryaveer.

Speaking after his victory, Tagliarini said he was delighted to contribute to his team's success and credited his teammates and coach for their support.

"India's a tough opponent and they upset England yesterday. They have what it takes to show why they're one of the best," said Shalaby after securing the semifinal win.

The Indian women's team had also faced the United States earlier in the tournament, losing in the quarterfinal stage.

The USA will now take on defending champions Egypt in the men's final, repeating the 2025 title clash held in Cairo. Egypt booked their place in the final after overcoming a determined French team in a tightly fought semifinal encounter.
