Commercial LPG cylinder prices slashed by up to Rs 209; domestic rates unchanged

New Delhi, Aug 2: Oil marketing companies (OMCs) have reduced the prices of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders by up to Rs 209 with effect from Friday, providing relief to restaurants, hotels, caterers and other commercial establishments. However, there has been no change in the prices of domestic LPG cylinders.

Following the latest revision, a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 2,728 in Delhi and Rs 2,872.50 in Kolkata.

The price cut is expected to lower operating costs for businesses that rely heavily on commercial LPG.

This is the second consecutive monthly reduction in commercial LPG prices. Last month, OMCs had reduced the price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder by Rs 183.50, bringing the retail price in Delhi down to Rs 2,930 from July 1.

The companies had also cut the price of the 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder by Rs 13, reducing its retail price in Delhi to Rs 808.50.

While commercial cylinder prices have been lowered, domestic LPG prices remain unchanged. In June, the price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder was increased by Rs 29, taking the retail price in Delhi to Rs 942 from Rs 913.

Earlier, the Centre had said that domestic LPG consumers continued to receive significant implicit subsidies despite a sharp increase in international LPG prices following the West Asia crisis.

Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi had informed Parliament that the retail selling price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder was maintained at Rs 942 despite an under-recovery of more than Rs 700 per cylinder in June 2026. He added that the implicit subsidy remained above Rs 500 per cylinder in July.

The government also stated that the average Saudi Contract Price (Saudi CP), the global benchmark for LPG pricing, rose to USD 796 per metric tonne in June 2026. At those international prices, the market-driven retail price of a domestic LPG cylinder would have been around Rs 1,695 without government support.
