Bantwal, Aug 2: A 48-year-old man went missing after being caught and washed away in the floodwaters at Rayi village in Bantwal taluk.
The missing person has been identified as Jeevan Pinto (48), son of Joseph Pinto, a resident of Panchakodi house in Rayi village.
According to sources, Jeevan was swept away by the strong currents in a stream that connects to the Phalguni river near Polali.
Following the incident, local authorities and residents launched an intensive search operation to trace him.
Because the stream merges directly with the Phalguni river, the search area has been widened. The search operations are currently underway and will continue tomorrow as well, sources said.
