Mumbai, Aug 3: The intensity of rainfall across Maharashtra has reduced since the beginning of August after weeks of heavy showers in July, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light to moderate rain across most parts of the state while issuing yellow alerts for isolated heavy rainfall in parts of Konkan, the ghat regions and Vidarbha on Sunday.
According to the IMD, weather conditions have improved across much of Konkan following several days of heavy rainfall. No weather warnings have been issued for Palghar, Thane or Mumbai.
However, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts remain under a yellow alert, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at isolated places. The IMD has forecast that rainfall over Konkan will reduce further over the coming days.
In north Maharashtra, the ghat areas of Nashik are also under a yellow alert. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar and Jalgaon districts. From Monday onwards, rainfall in the region is likely to weaken further, bringing more stable weather conditions and relief from the persistent rains witnessed over the past few days.
The ghat areas of Pune and Satara have also been placed under a yellow alert.
No weather warnings have been issued for Kolhapur, Satara city, Sangli or Solapur. These districts are expected to experience light rain, cloudy skies and occasional sunny spells over the next few days.
Similarly, no warnings have been issued for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv districts. These areas are likely to witness light rainfall accompanied by humid and cloudy weather.
Despite the improvement in weather, below-normal rainfall continues to remain a concern for farmers in several parts of the region, where rainfall deficits persist.
In Vidarbha, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Akola, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia and Wardha districts, forecasting heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
Buldhana, Nagpur and Yavatmal are expected to receive light to moderate rain. The weather department has indicated that rainfall across Vidarbha is also likely to decrease from Monday, with comparatively drier conditions expected to prevail.
