Mumbai, Aug 3: Veteran sports journalist and media executive Gaurav Kalra has resigned as Chief Content & Marketing Officer at JSW Sports, ending a little over a year-long tenure with the organisation.

Kalra announced his departure in a LinkedIn post, describing the past 13 months as "among the most rewarding" of his three-decade-long professional career.

"In a working life that has spanned 30 years, that doesn't seem like a significant chunk of time. Yet, as I finish my stint at JSW Sports, I will look back on this phase as among the most rewarding of my professional journey," he wrote.

Kalra joined JSW Sports in July 2025 and was responsible for leading content and marketing strategy across the company's sporting ecosystem, including the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS), Haryana Steelers, Bengaluru FC, Pretoria Capitals, Soorma Hockey Club, Indian Open Squash, Talent, and JSW Inspire.

Reflecting on his tenure, he said the role gave him the opportunity to work across a wide range of sporting disciplines.

"There simply was never a dull day over this past year. From Kabaddi to Cricket, Football to Hockey, Olympic Sport to Squash, I found myself immersed in a range of experiences, each entirely distinct and unique. The working days were always intense, and the learning curve was steep," he said.

Kalra also thanked the content and marketing team he led, along with colleagues across the organisation, saying he was leaving with relationships he would "treasure forever."

Before joining JSW Sports, Kalra served for three years at JioStar, then operating under the Viacom18 and Star Sports network, as Vice President – Current Affairs. He was part of the senior editorial leadership that shaped coverage of major sporting events, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup, multiple editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Women's Premier League (WPL), and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Over a career spanning more than three decades, Kalra has held senior editorial and communications roles at Reliance Foundation as Head of Communications (Sports), Network18 as Group Editor (Sports), ESPN as Senior Editor, CNN-News18 as Sports Editor, Wisden as Senior Producer, and began his television career with BITV before moving to Trans World International.

Announcing his exit, Kalra said he does not intend to take up another full-time role immediately.

"For the first time in three decades, I want to leave a bit of open space in my working life. The last few years have been a bit of a roller coaster, so I am keen to hit the 'refresh' button for a bit. Looking forward to conversations, exchanging ideas and shaping things that have been swimming around in my head for a while but never found an outlet. Let's see where it all goes. I am excited," he wrote.

Kalra has not yet announced his next professional assignment.
