Mumbai, Aug 7: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Zeeshan Siddique, son of late politician Baba Siddique, has received a fresh death threat, with Mumbai Police suspecting that it may have been issued by absconding accused Zeeshan Akhtar, who is wanted in connection with Baba Siddique's murder.

According to police, the threat surfaced through an audio clip that was circulated among media persons in north India before going viral on social media. Authorities said the authenticity of the recording is yet to be verified.

A senior police official said a member of Zeeshan Siddique's family approached the police after learning about the threat through social media. A non-cognisable complaint was being registered at the time of reporting.

Police said they are examining whether the voice in the audio clip belongs to Zeeshan Akhtar, who is believed to be operating from outside India.

The audio clip allegedly contains threats against Zeeshan Siddique, claiming responsibility for the killing of his father and warning that he would be the next target.

Officials said Zeeshan Siddique was not in Mumbai when the threat surfaced. He has reportedly received similar threats in the past.

Baba Siddique was shot dead outside his son's office in Mumbai's Bandra East on October 12, 2024.

According to the Mumbai Police, the murder was allegedly orchestrated by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, with instructions reportedly issued by Lawrence Bishnoi's younger brother Anmol Bishnoi from abroad.

Anmol Bishnoi has since been deported to India and is currently lodged in Tihar Jail, while Zeeshan Akhtar remains absconding. Police said further investigation into the latest threat is underway.
