Mumbai, Aug 9: Milk prices in Maharashtra are set to rise, with the prices of both cow and buffalo milk expected to increase by Rs 2 per litre from August 11.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Milk Producers and Processors Welfare Association, attended by representatives of major cooperative and private dairy companies. The meeting was chaired by association president Gopalrao Mhaske.

The association attributed the price hike to rising input and operating costs. It said diesel prices have increased by Rs 10 per litre, while packaging costs have risen by around 30 per cent.

The procurement price of milk has also increased, with a further rise expected, the association said, adding that the increase in costs had made a revision in retail prices necessary.

From August 11, the selling price of both cow and buffalo milk will increase by Rs 2 per litre.

Consumers could also have to pay more for other dairy products. The association has decided to raise the prices of dairy products by up to 10 per cent, although the exact increase will vary depending on the product.

The revised prices will come into effect from August 11, increasing the monthly expenditure of households across Maharashtra on regular milk purchases.

The increase in prices of other dairy products could further add to household food expenses. The association said the latest revision was driven by higher procurement, fuel and packaging costs affecting the dairy industry.
