Karkala, Aug 12: Shiny Asma Saldanha of Koudur has made aviation history in Udupi district by successfully completing her pilot training and securing a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL), becoming the district’s first woman to earn the qualification.
The daughter of Ashok Jacob Saldanha and Maria Gretna Saldanha of Rangana Palke, Koudur, Shiny completed her schooling and pre-university education at Christ King Educational Institution, Karkala.
Determined to turn her dream of becoming a pilot into reality, Shiny appeared for the entrance examination of the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi (IGRUA) in Bengaluru and cleared it successfully. She subsequently underwent professional pilot training at IGRUA in Fursatganj, Uttar Pradesh, beginning in August 2023.

After successfully completing the various stages of training, Shiny obtained her Commercial Pilot Licence, opening a new chapter in her career and emerging as an inspiration for young women in Udupi district who aspire to enter the aviation sector.
At a time when women’s participation in aviation is steadily growing, Shiny’s achievement has drawn considerable attention. Her family, friends and residents of Karkala have congratulated her on the accomplishment.
