Bengaluru, Aug 13: In a bid to curb rising family disputes and divorce cases, pre-marital communication and counselling centres will be launched at 175 Family Counselling and Support Centres across Karnataka under the ‘Tere Mere Saath – Koodi Baalona’ initiative, Karnataka State Commission for Women chairperson Dr Nagalakshmi Chowdhary said.

The initiative has been launched in collaboration with the National Commission for Women and the Department of Women and Child Development, and will be implemented across all districts of the state, she told reporters.

“Five counsellors from each of the family counselling and support centres selected for the initiative are being trained in pre-marital communication and counselling methods. Following the training, pre-marital counselling services will be provided effectively,” Dr Chowdhary said.

She said Anganwadi workers would play a key role in taking information about the initiative to a wider audience. “A helpline system will also be developed to provide counselling and guidance promptly to those in need,” she said.

“Before marriage, counselling will cover various aspects essential for family life, including mutual understanding, effective communication, resolving differences, emotional preparedness, financial management, gender equality and mutual respect. A key objective of the initiative is to reduce family problems and divorce cases,” she said.
