Mumbai, Aug 13: The Kanara Catholic Association (KCA), founded in 1901, is the premier representative organization for the Kanara Catholic community in Mumbai. As a registered public trust, they have come a long way. KCA's journey spans decades of service, from providing hostel accommodations to building community halls, organizing sports activities, managing a fitness centre, and hosting joyful get-togethers.

KCA commemorated their landmark 125th anniversary on August 8, a memorable, vibrant event that was heavily attended by its members, families, and esteemed guests.

The programme commenced with a solemn Eucharistic celebration led by His Eminence, Oswald Cardinal Gracias, and co-celebrant Fr Joshan Rodrigues. The liturgy was beautifully enriched by the enthusiastic participation of youth, who led the readings and the choir. Following the well-attended Mass, they observed a traditional lighting of the lamp, led by His Eminence alongside the president of KCA, Sunil Lobo.

The grand event was graced by His Eminence, Oswald Cardinal Gracias, who was presented with a shawl by the president as a token of appreciation. Ashish Shelar, IT minister for the government of Maharashtra, extended his congratulations to the KCA members on behalf of the state government. In his address, he fondly recalled his first visit to the KCA when he was in standard 7.

The gathering was attended by numerous distinguished guests, including former KCA presidents Sunil Alva and Eric D'Sa. Other notable attendees included Ronnie Mendonca, Joaquim Reis, Albert D'Souza, Dr Kiran Coelho, Dr Snehal Pinto, Vincent Mathias, Arvind Pinto, Adv Pius Vaz, Mavis Nazareth, Priscilla Buthello, Stanley Lasrado, and Shastri (mother of former cricketer Ravi Shastri).

Warm wishes and congratulations were sent by Jishnu Varma (Governor of Maharashtra), Fr John Rodrigues (Archbishop of Bombay), acclaimed actor Erica Fernandes, and Ronald Gomes (president of CASK, Mangaluru), all of which were proudly published in the special edition of our newsletter. Additionally, star cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues and renowned Bollywood choreographer Terence Lewis sent their special congratulatory messages via video recordings.

Sunil Lobo then delivered a short presentation on the history, purpose, financial evolution, and current activities of the Kanara Catholic Association. The president took the opportunity to acknowledge the dedicated efforts of the office bearers, managing council members, as well as Rowina and Rolin for their exceptional support in their respective portfolios.

In a moment of great pride, His Eminence, Oswald Cardinal Gracias, alongside the president and committee, officially unveiled and released the special 125th anniversary edition of 'Amchi Khobar' newsletter.

The evening's entertainment, masterfully anchored by the MC for the evening, Edward, featured four engaging segments, each lasting approximately 20 to 25 minutes:

Drama: 'The Power of Faith in Overcoming Challenges and Surrendering to Jesus' (organized by Deepika Lobo), Mind Illusion Show: A mind-bending performance by Shantanu (organized by Boris Buthelo). The Performance Classics, a local talent showcase hosted by Lancy D'Souza. Retro Classics an Elvis Presley tribute show by Llyle Vaz (organized by Deepika Lobo).

Following the performances, the celebration shifted to the second floor, where guests enjoyed dynamic live music by Sunita Noronha, along with dancing and a festive spread. The evening's delicious welcome drinks, snacks, dinner, and juices were curated by caterer Lancy Barboza. The impressive venue décor was executed by Mandap and Francis Decorators, with seamless sound provided by Dion Sound.

The Special 125 Years Committee—comprising Boris Buthelo, Clara Menezes, Anil Pais, Sanjay Rego, Brian D’Lima, and Neel D'Souza—along with Clotilda D'Souza and the rest of the managing council team were thanked. Deep gratitude was also extended to the dedicated KCA staff, hostelites, volunteers, the Bandra police, and the technical crew. Their tireless, seamless teamwork ensured that all members, families, and guests thoroughly enjoyed a spectacular, memorable evening, all while maintaining an economical ticket price.
