Mangaluru, Aug 14: The Student Council 2026–2027 of St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, participated in a leadership training session titled 'From voice to vision: Leading change through participatory governance' on August 7. The programme aimed to equip student representatives with the knowledge and skills required to lead responsibly, engage constructively with the student community and contribute meaningfully to institutional development.
The session was led by Sr Dr M Venissa AC, principal, St Agnes College, who guided the student leaders on leadership, structural change, collaborative management and participatory governance. Emphasising that leadership extends beyond holding a position of authority, she encouraged students to understand concerns, listen to diverse perspectives, engage in dialogue and transform ideas into constructive action. The session also highlighted United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16) – Peace, justice and strong institutions, connecting student leadership with accountability, inclusiveness, responsible decision-making and peaceful resolution of concerns.
A significant outcome of the training was the students’ decision to initiate a dialogue with campus staff. Recognising that an inclusive institution grows through mutual understanding and collaboration, the Student Council plans to interact with staff members to understand their perspectives, experiences and concerns and explore ways of working hand in hand towards a more harmonious and supportive campus environment. The training also emphasized the importance of student connect and meaningful dialogue as essential components of effective leadership.
The Student Council members were encouraged to maintain regular interaction with students, listen to their concerns and perspectives, and create opportunities for open and constructive communication. The programme attended by 31 student leaders, fostered a shared sense of responsibility and encouraged them to move from 'voice to vision' by converting student concerns and ideas into practical and achievable initiatives. The programme began with a welcome by Nabhan Muzaffar, student president UG, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Devika Pai, lit wit and western dramatics secretary.
The training strengthened the foundation for responsible student governance and active student–institution partnership at St Agnes College.
